30 Facebook Applications For Doing Business

More than 30 Facebook applications will help you promote, network, communicate, collaborate online with colleagues and customers, and achieve more with your business.

What apps do you use on FB? If there is one that should be on this list, please feel free to add it at the bottom in the comments section.

Promotion Apps for your Blog

Networked Blogs: This App displays on your profile or one of the tabs and shows your blog and any blogs you regularly read. It’s a great way to promote yourself and others. Remember that to receive; you must first give.

Notes (Default App): The default app is found to the right of your profile. Add your RSS feed and see your friends’ feeds. When your blog is updated, it shows the article in your feed.

Social RSS: You can put this App in a box in your profile or, better yet, in its tab in your profile.

Simplaris BlogCast: A quick and easy way to put the title of the blog post and a link to it in your feed.

Business / Self-Promotion Applications

Define Me: Displays a “word cloud” that other people use to describe your business. This could be your best friend or worst enemy, depending on your business and customer service.

Print Business Cards: An eye-catching business card; that gives you options for creating your digital business card.

Endorse: Testimonials are a great way to build your company’s value. This App allows Facebook users to endorse your company or find it through the IEndorse business database.

My Business BlinkWeb: Create a widget that promotes your business that others can place on their profiles. This turns your friends and customers into your advertisers.

Professional Profile: Create a tab in your profile for all your contacts, information, and professional activities. Very useful if you want to separate your private part from your professional one.

Posted Items (Default App): A default application allows you to share everything you find interesting on the Internet by posting it on your profile. Videos, blogs, or even articles or anything else you find interesting.

Testimonials: Like IEndorse, it is a way to collect customer testimonials, but it does not have the IEndorse business database to search for companies.

Communication Applications

cauliflower: free conference calls!

30 Facebook Applications For Doing Business

Smart Phone: Phone to phone calls and even some conference features are handled from your FB profile.

SmartMessage Center: This tool allows you to send messages to groups or individuals and returns a single result that you can share. It’s an excellent tool for gathering information and organizing it on a single page instead of going through pages and responses. You can even export the results as XLS, PDF, or RSS.

Telephone: Talk, use instant messaging or leave a voice message. It’s more like a cell phone than a landline phone.

Voice Mail: Voice messages, voice chat, wall-activated voice messages, etc. Add sound to your profile or leave voice messages.

BeepMe: Want to stay connected but not have FB open? Beebe is your solution; you can configure what you want to be notified with this App.

fbTrayNotify: Like the previous App, this pop-up notifies you of new events, messages, and pokes.

Networking Apps

Introductions: If you are shy and find it hard to meet new people, this App will help you introduce yourself.

My LinkedIn Profile: Creates a nameplate of your LinkedIn profile that displays on your Facebook profile. With a simple click, the person interested in learning more about you go from one side to another.

Socially: This allows you to create notes about your online contacts, set reminders to talk to them, and manage your contacts. Great for keeping your business contacts up to date.

Tag Biz Business Network: Places a tag cloud of descriptive tags on your profile and the shapes of participating friends. These tags link to a tag directory where you can easily find similar companies or people and efficiently use your networking time.

Workin’ It!: Helps your post, sends your work experience to potential employers or clients and collects recommendations from your friends and co-workers.

Online Collaboration Apps

Huddle by WorkSpaces:

  • Save or share documents.
  • Make plans.
  • Collaborate on projects, and more (also one of LinkedIn’s apps).

My Office: This virtual office will help you get everyone on the same page by sharing documents, tasks, and more.

Audio and Audio-Visual Applications

Facebook Video (Default App) – Share videos of presentations, product demos, and even company announcements.

PodCast Player – Share audio interviews on your profile or your company’s podcasts.

SlideShare: You can connect that account to your profile if you already use SlideShare to share your online presentations.

Other Applications

Memorable Web Addresses for Profile, Page, or Group: If you are not happy with your Facebook username/URL, you can make an easy-to-remember and easy-to-find address for your company or group. Remember that you can also make these changes directly on Facebook without any extra application:

My Money: This online banking application is not very useful if you have a large business, but for small or sole proprietorships, it is one more tool that can help make the business experience on Facebook more valuable.

You also have to keep in mind that it works only with some banking institutions, and if your bank account is not located in the United States, you don’t even have to bother installing this application.

PayPal: If you need to integrate any payment system to your FB profile, PayPal is for that. You can integrate your PayPal account into your FB.

Page Maps: Displays on a mini-map (with links to larger maps) the location of your company or favorite meeting place.

Static FBML: Adds some advanced functionality to your Facebook page as it can write HTML or fbml (Facebook Markup Language) on the page. You can change the appearance and even add applications, forms, and widgets from other places with this application. But remember, the application alone does not work; it is you who redesign the look of your profile with the help of this application.

To Conclude

With the right combination of FB applications, you could manage much of your business from your Facebook profile. Conference calls, virtual office, collaboration services, finance applications, create documents and share applications, and a separate tab for your business contacts and activities.

And these applications are primarily for use on your profile, not on your fan page. So I think Facebook is a social network that we can use for professional activity, even from a personal profile. Remember, everything adds up and more online where everything ends up connected if you know how to use technology.
